Iranian Economist Wins Lee Foundation's Prize

The world prize of Lee Kuan Yew, Founder of new Singapore, was awarded to Iranian scientist, Dr. Ali Tayebnia, for the fist time.

In the presence of Eddie Tho, President of Lee Kuan Yew Foundation, some senior chiefs of the foundation, Singapore's senior officials of Foreign Affairs' Ministry and Iranian delegation, the world prize of Lee Kuan Yew Foundation was awarded to Dr. Ali Tayebnia, Iranian economist and former Minister of Economy. It is the first time that an Iranian economist could win this international prestigious prize.



In the beginning of the prize-giving ceremony, President of Lee Kuan Yew Foundation praised Dr. Ali Tayebnia for his scientific, economic and political position, pointing to his effort to develop Iran, improve economic situation, decrease inflation rate sharply during his tenure, saying he had a key role to promote the level of bilateral relations between Iran and Singapore.



Eddie Tho also referred to Dr. Ali Tayebnia's effective scientific and academic activities such as his compilations and comprehensive research.



After receiving the prize,Tayebnia expressed his gratitude for Lee Kuan Yew Foundation's choice, expressing his hope that this event would improve two-side relations between Iran and Singapore governments and private sectors' activists in various areas.

Tayebnia also had a major role in signing an agreement between Iran and Singapore to encourage and support investment mutually and it will come to effect from the next month.



Iranian delegation will visit top authorities of Singapore such as Deputy Prime Minister, former Prime Minister, councillor of government, Minister of Trade and Industry, Ministers of Defence and Foreign Affairs and also give a lecture in Business Federation of Singapore and International Studies Center of Rajaratnam are some parts of its programs.



It is worth noting that Iran's ambassador to Singapore, Director General of foreign investment of Organization for Investment Economic and Technical Assistance and Deputy President of Stocks Organization in international affairs and absorbing investment have accompanied Tayebnia in his trip to Singapore.
